Chiou Hwee proves to be an asset for KLRC

    Monday July 16, 2007

PETALING JAYA: Former national back-up shuttler Haw Chiou Hwee is the latest recruit of professional badminton club KLRC Bhd.

And her switch to the club has brought her success.

Chiou Hwee lifted her first international title in a partnership with seasoned campaigner Lim Pek Siah at the Victorian International in Australia yesterday.
They defeated New Zealand's Renee Flavell-Donna Cranston 21-8, 21-14 in the women's doubles final in just 25 minutes.

The 20-year-old Chiou Hwee left the Badminton Association of Malaysia's (BAM) Project 2010-12 squad last month citing personal reasons.

She was seen as the country's future talent after partnering Julia Wong to win the National Grand Prix Finals title in Terengganu in February.

The KLRC Bhd's owner, Datuk Seri Andrew Kam, was happy that the Chiou Hwee and Pek Siah partnerships had got off to a flying start in their first international tournament.

“Chiou Hwee is a player who has impressed us and she is full of energy. We decided to test her combination with Pek Siah in the Victorian International and we are glad that they succeeded in winning the title,” he said.

Besides Pek Siah-Chiou Hwee, the KLRC Bhd also have former national doubles players Joanne Quay and Chor Hooi Yee in their stable.
